PLSS! HELP! I WILL MARK BRAINIEST! :D (WORTH 180 PTS)
Dog Training Me?
by Bryan Ellett

My new dog is a mutt, or a mix of breeds, most likely a mix between a basset hound and a beagle. No one knows for sure, though. His name is Capote, and he is a really attractive dog, small but sturdy. He has great posture and always looks proud, sticking his chest out slightly and standing tall. There is only one problem, but it’s a big problem: he won’t fetch.

Actually, it’s worse than that. Not only will he not fetch, he’s making me play his game! I throw the ball, and Capote goes running after it, as if fetch is the thing in the world he most enjoys. He begins bringing the ball back to me, but then he runs right past me. I follow him, reaching for the ball and trying to pull it out of his mouth, but he keeps turning away from me, teasing me with the ball! He’s not playing fetch; he’s playing “come chase me!” And he’s training me to do it, too!

Once I realized this, I read some books, and I’ve changed my strategy. If he runs past me with the ball, I don’t follow him, and I don’t reach for the ball. Instead, I turn my back on him and ignore him. He really does like to play, so me ignoring him is a tremendous punishment! Eventually, he’ll bring the ball over to me, and once he does, I immediately throw it. That way, he knows that he’ll be rewarded with another throw if he brings me the ball. He is not a perfect fetch player yet, but I can now tell that one day he will be!

The reader can infer that

A.
some dogs will never fetch.

B.
Capote is not very smart.

C.
dogs can be trained to fetch.

D.
young dogs cannot play games.

Author: William Pene du Bois

The Setting

Setting: The story takes place in 1883, primarily on the island of Krakatoa in the East Indies, as well as briefly in San Francisco.

Protagonist: The protagonist is Professor William Waterman Sherman, a retired schoolteacher who embarks on a journey to travel around the world in a hot air balloon.

Quote: "William Waterman Sherman, retired, was floating over the Atlantic Ocean in a giant gas balloon, alone, as yet unafraid, soon to be asleep." (page 3)

Conflict: The primary conflict in the story is man vs. nature, as Professor Sherman must navigate dangerous storms, treacherous winds, and unexpected challenges while traveling in his balloon.

Quote: "It seemed that at any moment the basket would be torn from the balloon by the fierce winds, and Sherman would be hurled to his death." (page 32)

Antagonist: While there is no clear antagonist in the story, various obstacles and challenges that Professor Sherman faces, such as storms and mechanical failures, could be seen as antagonistic forces.

Quote: "The wind, however, had other ideas. It blew in gusts, now tossing the balloon upward, now sideways, as if it were a paper toy." (page 44)

Backstory: An important piece of backstory is the fact that Professor Sherman is a retired schoolteacher who is seeking adventure and excitement in his retirement. This motivation leads him to embark on his balloon journey.

Quote: "The balloon adventure was to be his escape from a quiet life, a chance to test his courage, to try new things." (page 4)

Plot Development: An early development in the plot is when Professor Sherman's balloon unexpectedly crashes on the island of Krakatoa, forcing him to find shelter and food while he repairs his balloon. Commas should be used to separate the state or the country when listing a city and a region or a city and a country, unless the place name comes at the end of the sentence and is subsequently followed by sentence-ending punctuation. How does Teiresias’s reference to time shape your understanding of the structure of this drama?

Answers

In the Greek tragedy "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles, the blind prophet Teiresias plays an important role in the unfolding of the plot. Teiresias's reference to time shapes the understanding of the structure of the drama by highlighting the tragic nature of the events and emphasizing the inevitability of fate.

Teiresias, who is able to see the truth despite his blindness, tells Oedipus that he is the one who has brought a curse upon Thebes, and that he will be revealed as the killer of his father and the husband of his mother. Oedipus is skeptical of Teiresias's claims and accuses him of being involved in a conspiracy against him. Teiresias, however, insists on the truth of his prophecy, stating that "Time, who sees all things, has already revealed the truth."

This reference to time highlights the structure of the drama by emphasizing the inevitability of fate. The tragic events that unfold throughout the play are not the result of chance or coincidence, but rather the inevitable consequences of Oedipus's actions. The structure of the play is shaped by the concept of fate, which controls the events and guides the characters towards their inevitable downfall.

Teiresias's reference to time also serves to heighten the dramatic tension of the play. By suggesting that the truth has already been revealed by time, Teiresias adds a sense of urgency and immediacy to the action. The audience is left wondering when and how the truth will be revealed, and the tension builds as the play progresses towards its tragic conclusion.

In conclusion, Teiresias's reference to time in "Oedipus Rex" serves to shape the understanding of the structure of the drama by emphasizing the inevitability of fate and adding a sense of urgency and dramatic tension to the action.

The quοtatiοn develοps the theme οf supernatural influences - when Macbeth murdered the king, a stοrm raged οutside and peοple heard "strange screams οf death". This passage frοm the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare describes the events οf the night after Macbeth murders King Duncan.

The language used creates an eerie and οminοus atmοsphere, with the use οf wοrds like "dire cοmbustiοn" and "cοnfused events." The mentiοn οf "prοphesying with accents terrible" suggests that the supernatural is at wοrk, which ties intο the play's larger theme οf the influence οf the supernatural οn human actiοns and fate.

The stοrm οutside and the "strange screams οf death" indicate that there are fοrces beyοnd human cοntrοl that are respοnding tο Macbeth's actiοns.
